Although the Carmel Valley has been inhabited for thousands of years first by the Olone Indians then the Spanish conquers, Carmel-by-the-Sea was sparsely populated. The Pine Inn, the first hotel built in 1889 was moved to Monte Verde in 1905 .The first families were mostly poets and artists developed a unique style in the village which wasn’t even incorporated until 1919.
The charming German Hansel & Gretel thatched cottages are now mixed with the Mediterranean villa, French petit mansion and the rose covered English cottage.

Carmel offers the visitor a unique dining experience with world class art galleries and gift shops. The closeness of the fine white sand beach makes a short or long stay unforgettable.
